Tony Khan found himself in a precarious situation on AEW Dynamite following a shocking ambush by Jack Perry. The incident occurred during what seemed to be an attempt at reconciliation between Khan and Perry, but Perry suddenly turned violent, striking Khan in the gut. This initial attack triggered a rapid escalation as The Young Bucks and Kazuchika Okada joined Perry, leading to brutal assault that left Khan incapacitated in the ring.
On his Kliq This podcast, Kevin Nash addressed a recent controversial segment on AEW Dynamite that resulted in Tony Khan wearing a neck brace during the 2024 NFL Draft. Nash criticized Khan for overselling a padded microphone shot and suggested that the segment could be viewed as AEW’s equivalent of the infamous “finger poke of doom,” which has been associated with a pivotal decline in WCW’s popularity and credibility.
Nash referenced the significant drop in viewership following the controversial angle. The episode of Dynamite that featured the segment drew 683,000 viewers, a notable decrease from the previous week’s 762,000 viewers, marking the lowest viewership for AEW in six months. The last time the show’s audience was this low was on the October 10th broadcast, indicating a concerning downward trend.
”It was, uh, 683,000 viewers. And that, uh, the previous week was 762. So this was actually the lowest Dynamite audience in, uh, six months, uh, since the, I think it was October 10th broadcast, which was six months ago.
Thank God, because they missed the finger poke of doom at the end of this motherf****r.”
In case you didn’t know, Tony Khan will run AEW remotely after suffering head and neck injuries due to The Elite’s brutal attack. It remains to be seen how AEW will book The Elite’s storyline in the coming weeks.
