WWE has many storylines, but not all make it to television. Some are scrapped before they can unfold, as happened with a storyline involving Paige.
Saraya, known as Paige in WWE, and Shelton Benjamin were once slated for a storyline together. Benjamin, now former WWE star, revealed details about this abandoned plot that would have seen them paired up for an eventual romance.
In an interview with Metro, Benjamin discussed past storylines that were pitched but never materialized. One such storyline involved Paige, who is now known as Saraya in AEW.
“This is when I came back the second time. I think Paige was the General Manager for SmackDown. The idea was I will start off as kind of her bodyguard, but I think it was going to turn romantic and that was all – they were all set to do that, and then it just didn’t happen.”
Benjamin, who was released from WWE in September 2023, had been with the company from 2017 until his release, following an earlier stint from 2002 to 2010. Saraya left the company prior to that, as her contract expired, and she eventually ended up in AEW.
In February 2024, Benjamin returned to in-ring action for Prestige Wrestling, where he defeated Tom Lawlor. Saraya currently leads the Outcasts group in AEW, joined by Harley Cameron and her real-life brother Zak Knight.
We will have to see what Tony Khan writes for Saraya from this point on. She lost in the Owen Hart Cup tournament to Mariah May, which was a bit of a surprise during the Forbidden Door kickoff show. Only time will tell if Tony brings in Shelty to dust off that bodyguard angle.
