Will Ospreay fought fiercely to dethrone the current AEW Champion Swerve Strickland in a grueling main event at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. However, Ospreay’s moral dilemma proved to be his downfall.
Despite being handed a screwdriver by Don Callis after the referee was incapacitated, Ospreay chose not to use it. This hesitation allowed Strickland to recover, seize control of the match, and deliver three House Calls to retain his AEW World title.
After the match, the AEW Champion showed respect to a visibly emotional Ospreay before celebrating his hard-earned victory to close the show. Ospreay received thunderous applause from the crowd upon his return after the Forbidden Door 2024 event went off the air.
As seen in a video making rounds online, The Aerial Assassin was upset and grappling with his emotions while receiving encouragement from Kyle Fletcher as he made his way to the back.
Will Ospreay has also broken his silence on the matter, vowing to become the AEW World Champion one day. We will have to wait and see what AEW will have next in store for Will Ospreay, as his story is far from over.
