Will Ospreay Dedicates AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door Match to Late Grandmother

Will Ospreay is one of the top stars in AEW and remains a focal point of AEW television. Despite his busy career, he cherishes his family deeply. Ospreay is set to main event AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door this week and has announced that he is dedicating the match to his departed grandmother.

Will Ospreay will headline his first AEW pay-per-view on June 30 at the UBS Arena, challenging Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Title. In heartfelt video on Twitter, Ospreay shared that it had been a difficult week for him as he coped with the passing of his grandmother. Despite the emotional turmoil, he expressed gratitude for the support he received from his colleagues backstage and friends.

Reflecting on his upcoming main event match, Ospreay acknowledged the challenging week but remained focused on delivering a memorable performance. He asked fans to conserve their energy for his match and dedicated his effort to his fans, family, and his late grandmother.

“Being honest with you guys, I don’t know why I want to do this video, but I feel the need to get this off my chest. It’s been such an overwhelming week for me. I’ve got about an hour away to go over to the UBS Arena for Forbidden Door. It’ll be my first pay-per-view main event with myself and Swerve Strickland fighting for the world title. It’s been such an overwhelming week,” he said. “Tuesday, I landed in America and I was given the news that my Nan passed away, and it’s the first time I’ve ever lost a family member. It’s all been such an emotional week. It’s a sense of relief as well because my Nan was in so much pain, so for her to now be at peace is good, but it still doesn’t stop the hurting.

“Having everybody backstage and everyone on my phone to have that amazing support system, I can’t begin to tell you guys how lucky I am to have that support.”

Ospreay gave his appreciation for being entrusted with such a significant opportunity and recognized it as a culmination of his hard work. He concluded by asking for support and good vibes from fans, hoping to make them proud by potentially becoming the first-ever AEW International and World Champion.

“If there’s something I can [to anyone going to the arena that is currently watching the video], save some of that energy because I’m gonna need it. This has been one of the hardest weeks of my entire life, just to be able to keep all of this in. I bottled everything up and now it’s all coming here. It’s all here right in front of me,” he said. “For the first time, I’m going for the world title in the UBS Arena. I can’t begin to thank AEW, my family, my friends, and everybody for this incredible support system that I’ve had, and to be trusted in the main event. I think this is the first time I’ve been in the main event with a million-dollar gate, it just makes me happy that all that hard work is paying off. So if you guys are in attendance or you guys are watching, send me your good vibes, send me all the love that you got. This one’s for all my family and for my Nan. Love all you guys so much, I hope I don’t let you guys down, and hopefully, by the end of the night, I’ll be the first-ever AEW International and World Champion. Thank you so much guys, god bless you all. Take care.”

Will Ospreay is now more determined than ever to defeat Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Championship at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view, so we will have to wait and see if he will be successful in his endeavor.
