Will Ospreay Addresses Record Low 6/19 AEW Dynamite Viewership Numbers

Will Ospreay is one of AEW’s biggest stars right now and one of the true faces of the company, which is why he has finally addressed the record-low viewership for the June 19th edition of AEW Dynamite.

Last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite drew concerning television ratings, with only 502,000 viewers and 0.16 key demo rating. This was a significant drop from the previous week’s 681,000 viewers and a 0.23 demo on June 12th, and 680,000 viewers with a 0.22 rating in the 18-49 demographic on June 26th. Notably, this week’s show had The Big Bang Theory as its lead-in, a factor that wasn’t present when AEW recorded its record-low ratings.

While speaking in an interview with CBS Sports, Will Ospreay addressed the disappointing ratings, expressing his dismay. He remarked that despite the low numbers, he felt the show was a success and stated that he and others are using it to come back swinging.

“It sucks that it was such a low rating but it’s just motivating me and I’m sure it’s motivating others to try and think out of the box and come back swinging,” Ospreay said. “I’m not someone who ignores that type of s—. I see it and I take note of it. I put it in the checkbook and I make sure whatever we do next week, we come back swinging. We shouldn’t ignore criticism or shy away from it. We’re still a five-year company and we’re still hitting the ropes with these things. For me, AEW still has lots of growing pains to go through.”

Ospreay acknowledged that both companies and wrestlers face growing pains in their early years, comparing AEW’s current situation to WWE’s struggles five years ago. He found WWE’s current success inspiring and a benchmark for AEW to aspire to.

“If we look back five years to what WWE was doing, they were at a low. But the way they’re thriving right now is inspiring to everyone. It should be something to hit. We need to change the bar and see what we must do to change things up. Like I said, I’m not the type of person to shy away from it. I enjoy criticism.”

We have also revealed whether the all-time low viewership had any effect on AEW’s media rights deal with Warner Bros Discovery. Regardless, fans certainly hope AEW Dynamite never sees such low ratings ever again.
