Torrie Wilson Reveals Why She Initially Shunned Wrestling After WWE Exit

Torrie Wilson was one of the women who blazed a trail for those female Superstars today, and she remains one of the most beloved in the industry. She also left wrestling for a long time after her WWE exit and now Wilson has revealed the reason for her hiatus.

Torrie Wilson retired from professional wrestling in 2008 after departing from WWE. Despite her retirement, she has made occasional appearances for the company. In 2019, Wilson received the prestigious honor of being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

While speaking with Chris Van Vliet, Torrie Wilson opened up about experiencing PTSD after leaving wrestling, attributing it to feeling exposed and vulnerable on television. She avoided anything related to wrestling for many years due to the discomfort caused by her perceived raunchy role and judgment from others.

Wilson only began reconnecting with wrestling when approached to participate in the Royal Rumble, eventually developing a renewed interest in the industry.

“That’s taken a long time (to allow myself to reflect on my career). I didn’t watch wrestling, I didn’t want anything to do with wrestling for many years after I left. Mostly because I just had a certain amount of P.T.S.D. from being so vulnerable out there and feeling like I was put in this kind of, like, raunchy role that wasn’t me, and I felt judgment from people. I felt like people look down on me for like, just, stuff that I did, the bra and panty matches and all that so, I just wanted to shut that door and for many years, I didn’t watch and it wasn’t until they called me to do the Royal Rumble that I started to kind of catch up and then I got really into it, like more into it than I ever was when I was wrestling.”

Torrie Wilson’s illustrious career and contributions to the professional wrestling industry will continue to resonate with fans and peers for years to come. From her iconic run in WWE to her numerous accolades and championships, Torrie has cemented her place in wrestling history. Only time will tell whether she’ll return to WWE once again, as fans would love that.
