During a recent media call to promote NXT Heatwave, Shawn Michaels addressed concerns about NXT talent losing their spot on the roster. He noted that while there are many opportunities and hours of television, nobody can be the featured star every week as it could become repetitive.
Michaels discussed how outside talent coming in can serve as a lesson for NXT performers. In NXT, everyone understands it’s a developmental territory with rotating opportunities. Unlike the main roster or veteran performers, new talents are still adjusting to the business dynamics.
Looking ahead over a 2-3 year period, Michaels acknowledged that the regular use of talent can vary, potentially leading some to feel underutilized. He emphasized that this is part of the developmental process, teaching talents about the broader aspects of the business beyond in-ring performance. How talents conduct themselves can significantly impact their future opportunities, making this a valuable learning experience.
HBK also spoke about talents who have departed from the company in recent memory. He opened up about Gable Steveson and Drew Gulak as well. The roster in NXT is a revolving door sometimes, and there are currently some big fish in that small pond.
Michaels noted that such issues are less pronounced in NXT, comparing it to a college environment where learning and growth are prioritized.
