Matt Hardy Reveals Reason For Promoting WWE After AEW Contract Expiry

Following a storied career spanning multiple wrestling promotions, Matt Hardy finds himself as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with All Elite Wrestling. In response, Hardy has disclosed his status after his recent WWE posts.

Matt Hardy made his AEW debut in March 2020 during the early stages of the pandemic. There was initial speculation that his contract would align with his brother Jeff Hardy’s, potentially paving the way for Jeff’s entry into AEW. However, due to various circumstances such as injuries and periods of inactivity, the synchronization of their contracts did not happen as expected, resulting in an extension of Matt’s contract.

Reports had indicated that Matt Hardy’s contract was set to expire in March of this year, fact recently confirmed by Hardy himself. As previously reported, Matt Hardy’s contract with AEW expired recently. He would then promote WWE this week as well.

On his podcast, “The Extreme Life,” Hardy revealed that his recent social media posts were part of a strategic effort to generate hype and maintain interest in his next steps.

Hardy mentioned that he has been in discussions with several promotions, including AEW and WWE, as well as other platforms, indicating that he has a range of options to consider for his future. He sees himself as a brand and understands the importance of promoting his brand to remain relevant and exciting in the wrestling world.

“Full disclosure, I am doing what I should be doing as a free agent, creating hype around myself. Yes, I have been speaking with AEW constantly, I have been speaking with WWE, I’ve been speaking with several people across several different platforms. So I think the next couple of weeks are going to be fun. The next few weeks are going to be fun. As I said before, I think we’re getting to the point where we’re going to be doing some pretty cool stuff coming up.

So yeah, I am doing what I should be doing. And my job as a brand, which I have to look at myself as a brand. A lot of my social media stuff as my Matt Hardy brand. My job as a brand is to promote myself and to create buzz around myself. And I feel like I do a pretty decent job with it whenever I am just able to kind of freelance and do whatever.”

Despite his departure from AEW, Matt Hardy has made it clear that he is not retiring from active wrestling anytime soon. We’ll have to wait and see what’s next in store for Hardy, as fans continue to speculate about his next move.
