Eric Bischoff Says AEW Forbidden Door Match Booking Was Tony Khan’s Best Decision Ever

Will Ospreay fought hard to dethrone the current AEW Champion Swerve Strickland in a grueling main event at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door and many fans loved the match and it appears that even Eric Bischoff did as well.

Despite being handed a screwdriver by Don Callis after the referee was incapacitated, Ospreay chose not to use it. This hesitation allowed Strickland to recover, seize control of the match, and deliver three House Calls to retain his AEW World title.

While speaking on his 83 Weeks podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff talked about Will Ospreay vs Swerve Strickland and hailed the bout as one of Tony Khan’s best creative decisions to date.

“I’m gonna say this right off the f***ing bat, kudos to Tony Khan in his creative decision, perhaps the best one he’s ever made. Having Will Ospreay put over Swerve and not only, by the way, put over Swerve but make Swerve look like a billion bucks… Ospreay can make himself look really, really good, he made Swerve tonight.”

Despite his criticisms of AEW, especially regarding Swerve Strickland’s booking in the past, Bischoff took the opportunity to commend Strickland, Khan, and Ospreay for their performances at Forbidden Door.

“[Swerve] got the opportunity and he was in there with a pro in Ospreay. Ospreay did everything he could in his power to make that a phenomenal freaking match. Not taking anything from Swerve but Swerve couldn’t have done what he did to the level he did it without someone as professional and as talented as Ospreay… I can’t say enough good things about it. It gives me some hope, it actually does, it was powerful enough to give me hope.”

Will Ospreay has also vowed to become the AEW World Champion one day, but fans are certainly surprised to see so much praise from Eric Bischoff. Regardless, we’ll have to see if AEW will continue to make decisions that Bischoff will praise in the end.
