Bret Hart has held onto deep resentment towards Bill Goldberg for the infamous career-ending kick delivered at Starrcade 1999, and the wrestling icon remains vocal about his grievances with his former rival and now it appears Eric Bischoff has called Hart a miserable human being.
Due to the kick, Bret Hart suffered post-concussion syndrome, which forced him to prematurely hang up his pro wrestling boots. Bret Hart went on record and said that Goldberg’s work rate was “0/10.”
In recent discussions, WWE Hall of Famers and veterans have been honest about their experiences and grievances from their time in WCW, as seen in the VICE docuseries “Who Killed WCW?”. Bret Hart has notably expressed resentment towards WCW, particularly for how Goldberg’s kick ended his career.
Eric Bischoff addressed Hart’s long-standing grudge on his 83 Weeks podcast, describing him as a “miserable human being” who hasn’t moved on from his grievances. Bischoff suggested that while Hart might find happiness in other aspects of his life, wrestling continues to be a source of discontent for him, likening him to a persistent raincloud that complains and blames others within the wrestling industry.
“He is a miserable human being and he hasn’t been able to move on. He’s like a giant rain cloud that just mopes around and will b***h and whine and moan and blame anybody he can blame to who is ever willing to listen.”
Bischoff noted that despite Bret Hart’s achievements in wrestling—accomplishments few people will ever experience—Hart continues to harbor deep-seated bitterness. Bischoff pointed out that Hart has gained wealth and enjoyed incredible success in his career, suggesting there’s no justification for him to remain as miserable as he is.
“He’s done things that very few people in the world will get an opportunity to even imagine, more or less actually do. He’s made a fortune. There’s no reason for this guy to be as dark and miserable as he is.”
Nevertheless, Bret Hart will always be bitter about his time in WCW and fans completely understand why, but many people also feel that Bret Hart should simply let go of all the hate and resentment stored in him.
