Booker T Suggests Gable Steveson’s Love for Wrestling Affected WWE Transition

Since his signing with WWE was announced, excitement made its way for amateur wrestling lovers, interested in seeing how things would go out for Gable Steveson in WWE. Right after his signing, he was drafted to Raw. However, the number of appearances he has made in WWE is astonishing.

Steveson was dubbed to be the next big star in WWE. However, he was always confused in choosing among classic wrestling and WWE. He was once seen alongside Kurt Angle trying to build a storyline against Chad Gable. But things never went far enough to book a match between both men. Before he could make his pro-wrestling debut, Steveson was released by WWE recently.

On the latest edition of the Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T addressed Steveson’s run in WWE. In an interesting comment, he stated that the star always had a bug for amateur wrestling in him which prevented him from being a WWE superstar.

“Exactly, I think that’s what it was—more than anything. Could he have cut it and really pulled this thing off? Probably. I really think that [amatuer] wrestling bug was still in his system, and it was hard for him to really get it out. He still had something to prove, and there again, just having one foot in and one foot out. I think that was his problem.”

While Booker T pointed at the amateur wrestling bug as the reason, millions around the world weren’t sure if the star would be able to deliver with the mic when it came to building a feud. It would be interesting to see if Steveson gets a chance to be a part of WWE or any other wrestling promotion in the future.
