Adam Copeland Discloses When AEW Talks Began After WWE Exit

AEW WrestleDream delivered night of incredible moments that will be remembered for a long time, with Adam Copeland’s debut being the biggest moment in the whole show. Copeland was part of WWE for 25 years, but AEW is clearly his home now and Copeland revealed when he was in talks with AEW after his WWE exit.

While speaking on the Insight podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer talked about his transition from WWE to AEW, explaining that he left WWE on good terms. He revealed how quickly the change happened, as he started talking with AEW the day after his WWE contract expired.

“It happened so quick. My contract with WWE was up on, I want to say September 21st. That’s when I started talking to Tony [Khan.] It was September 22nd. And WrestleDream was October 1st. So it all happened within a week.”

Copeland’s move to AEW wasn’t his first encounter with the promotion. Back in 2019, when AEW was a new player in the wrestling world, he nearly joined but ultimately chose to stay with WWE. When asked why he decided to switch to AEW four years later, Copeland explained that he felt his journey with WWE had reached its end.

“It felt like I’d done everything that I was going to do with WWE. I’d worked [with] the people I wanted to work, 95 percent anyway. And it really just felt that they were on a direction and I was on a direction and they were kind of going separate ways.”

The Rated R Superstar has also brushed off any accusations of being traitor after making the jump to AEW. He is currently the TNT Champion and is having banger after banger every week and that’s what matters to him.
